FAT32

Just bought an USB external disk and found out it comes formatted with FAT32. Why FAT32? Probably because FAT32 is still a ubiquitous file system. But other than this, NTFS offers:

  • The capability to recover from some disk-related errors automatically, which FAT32 cannot;

  • Improved support for larger hard disks;

  • Better security because you can use permissions and encryption to restrict access to specific files to approved users;

I found it after copying a lot of files to the disk, where I also found out Vista doesn't have a convert feature built in the explorer. So I had to do it the old way:

convert /FS:NTFS
